More after the jump...
First up, Coachella. This looks to be the cream of the crop so far. Honestly, I can't imagine any festival outdoing this lineup. If one manages to beat it, I will be there. If you are into Indie rock like me, this is the one for you. Bands that made it move when I saw they were playing include: Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon, Interpol, The Black Keys, The Chemical Brothers, Lauryn Hill, Cold War Kids, Cee Lo Green, Cage the Elephant, Animal Collective, Mumford and Sons, Broken Social Scene, Erykah Badu, New Pornographers, Big Audio Dynamite, The Aquabats, Kanye West, The Strokes, Duran Duran, The National, PJ Harvey, Ratatat, Nas and Damian Marley, Jimmy Eat World, and Chromeo. The Festival is in Southern California April 15-17
Next up is Wakarusa. For those of you looking to relax to some jam bands and bluegrass, this is for you. The line-up is intriguing. I have to admit that i'm not a huge jam band guy, but I have gotten into bluegrass more since a buddy of mine at work really likes it. I would love to check this one out too. Artists that piqued my interest include: My Morning Jacket, Ben Harper and the RELENTLESS 7, Thievery Corporation, Bassnectar, Mumford and Sons, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Galactic, North Mississippi Allstars, Quixotic, and Perpetual Groove.
Still waiting on lineups from...
Bonnaroo in Manchester, TN (June 9-12)
Been there and done that, but I still would love to go again if the lineup is good this year. It is usually an eclectic mix so I'm that Arcade Fire and Mumford and Sons play it. If these two sign up, it wll be hard for me to turn it down since the location is so convenient.
The Hangout in Gulf Shores, AL (May 20-22)
Also more of an eclectic mix that will probably have some good classic rock mixed in. Here is a recent article written about it that makes this year seem really promising. The lineup will probably be good for the size of the festival, but not what I want to go to if I'm only going to go to one. I see this as more of an extra on top the big three mentioned above. It is tempting because of the location. A music festival on the beach? That scores alot of points.
Lollapalooza in Chicago, IL (Aug. 5-7)
More alternative and pop acts here. Chicago would be fun, but the date is at the beginning of school so probably a "no-go".
Austin City Limits in Austin, TX (Sept. 16-18)
This festival usually has a solid lineup, but the dates are during high school football season for me so that makes it next to impossible.
I have pretty much made up my mind that I will be at one of Coachella, Wakarusa, or Bonnaroo, because of the lineup and camping experience. Unfortunately, the distance to Coachella will make camping next to impossible since we will have to fly out there. However, I can't ignore that ridiculous lineup.
Also check out the upcoming Jazz fest in Nola. It's two weekends, the last of April and the first of May. Acts include Arcade Fire, Wilco, Willie Nelson, Robert Plant, The Strokes, The Decemberist, Mumford and Suns, Robert Randolph, Bon Jovi, Kid Rock, John Cougar, Jimmy Buffet, The Avett Brothers, Kenny G! list goes on and on.
ReplyDeleteFor a jazz fest I see a lot of different music except for jazz.
That lineup looks good and the tickets are pretty cheap ($60 per day for single day tix or $40 per day for a weekend). I'd be willing to pay $60 to go on Friday and see Arcade Fire.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the unfortunate thing is it's two weekends and I would have to choose between the two, with the first weekend having more bands I would like to see, but the second having Arcade Fire. How do you choose?!
ReplyDeleteWell, Arcade Fire was a huge reason I wanted to go to Coachella, so I could get my Arcade Fire fix in New Orleans and go to Wakarusa.
ReplyDeleteJust checked my schedule and Cochella isn't going to work for me. And my exams end on May 6th.
ReplyDeleteBilly, you are gay and so is your school.
ReplyDeleteI do not agree with your statement my good sir but I will defend to the death your right to say it.
ReplyDeleteme and whitney are going to the second weekend of jazz fest. lupe fiasco, wilco arcade fire and trombone shorty all play that weekend.
