Throw dem Dice!

Hopefully, it will be more like this:

I've been learning how to play craps for the last few days for the trip to Vegas. I figure since the game tickets are outrageous, I better make sure I have plenty of fun in Vegas. Anyways, the game looks like fun and it is always moving. Hopefully, I can play for an hour or so and get some drinks out of it. What are your plans for the casino (I guess this only applies to Roy and Billy)? Have any of you played craps? What's the most fun to play at a casino?

Movie Reviw: True Grit

I saw True Grit the other night, so I thought I'd give a review. First, the good: The dialogue in this movie was great. The girl, played by Hailee Steinfeld, was the most interesting character. Bridges held his own in the movie, and Matt Damon wasn't bad. The story grabs your attention from the start, but be prepared to be let down. Second, the bad: This movie could have easily been thirty minutes longer and it should have been. The ending seemed rushed with very little time to get to know the killer Bridges and Steinfeld are chasing. I felt indifferent at the end, because I didn't really feel like I had any connection to the characters. In my opinion, you should wait and see this on DVD.

Revisionist History of Rap

Without question, the performance posted by His (Our?) Dark Lord was the best thing Jimmy Fallon has ever done but this performance with Justin Timberlake is definitely in the top 5. Some of the impersonations (B.I.G.) aren't too good but others (Beastie Boys) are spot on. Some songs shouldn't have been included (Soulja Boy?) while others were conspicuously absent (Nas, anyone?). Overall, though, a very solid performance.

Del the Funky Homosapien

For some reason, I've been listening to a lot of underground hip-hop for the past month or so. If you're into that sort of thing look no further than Del the Funky Homosapien. Cerebral lyrics and lots of samples that rely on funk and jazz beats is the best way to describe a lot of his early stuff. It is a refreshing change from the current state mainstream hip-hop is mired in. Despite being Ice Cube's cousin he didn't come into fame until the moderate success of the group Hieroglyphics. Below is a good representation of his early style:

In the late '90's he took a bunch of acid and found even more success with the Gorillaz, contributing vocals to the song Clint Eastwood and eventually used his connections with this group to create the group Deltron 3030, whose self-titled hip-hopera (I think I just coined this term) tells a story about using hip-hop to overtake the oppressive universal government everyone lives under in the year 3030. If you can get past that bullshit concept it is a good album with excellent rhymes and beats.

We Live Underground. We Speak With Our Hands. Do Not Use The Cables!!!

Some of you saw this when I posted it on Facebook but if you didn't read it you should. You are looking at a terminated speaker cable from Audio Quest that sells for a whopping $6,800. But that isn't why you should look at this. The product reviews make for some of the best satire I've read in a long time. Enjoy.

If You Build It, They Will Come

There probably isn't anything to this but we've been on the bad side of the sports page all season long so it's someone else's turn. This site is interesting. The stories he has aren't what you'll find on the typical sports page but for some reason he keeps trying to link the FBI investigation into Milton McGregor to Auburn athletics.

Guess What Happens Next

The point of this game is to pause the video every few seconds and guess what happens next. I don't think I've posted this one yet, but it's a feel-good clip for your Wednesday before Christmas.

BhamMountainRadio!!!

To add to Roach's FFEF
Info from their facebook:
“The Mountain” – bhammountainradio.com is an internet based radio station that has a world class rock/adult album alternative format and focuses on local content through local DJ’s, specialty shows, promotions, and through highlighting local and regional bands.
Their Mission: We are committed to being a service to Birmingham and to being part of the local community. “The Mountain” is bringing radio back to the way it was and the way it should be.
and as Roach has already posted http://bhammountainradio.com/. I really want to support these guys and hope you do too.
The Radio Station started out with "The Mountain Song" and then followed that with the last song that was played on Live 100.5, Muse's "Uprising."
Scott Register from Reg's Coffee house is supposed to be joining them soon. They had a few audio problems the first couple of days but the radio station is improving every day. They are playing some great stuff too.

Free Friday Ear Food - Birmingham Mountain Radio

Today's FFEF is huge. In fact, it's never ending. It makes all future FFEF unneeded. It's the new internet radio station, The Mountain, broadcasting right here in the Ham atop Red Mountain.

Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad, and it's always repetitive. Welcome back radio, you have been missed.

Free Friday Ear Food - Jónsi

This will take some time to enjoy, as it is a webcast and not a selection of songs to browse. Here is the description:

"Last week, two sigur rós side projects were performed for the first time live at the church of st paul the apostle in new york city: the contemporary classical piece ‘credo’ by kjartan and six songs from the jónsi & alex record ‘riceboy sleeps’. the works were performed by the latvian national choir and the wordless music orchestra. jónsi & alex joined the groups onstage for the ‘riceboy sleeps’ concert, jónsi occasionally lending a little bit of his voice to the performance."

Hope you like classical music.

Edit: Just want to note I'm not a huge fan of Kjartan's music, but left it up nonetheless, after all he is a huge reason why Sigur Ros is so awesome.

VEGAS>GLENDALE>VEGAS BUS!

Are you going to be staying in Las Vegas before the national championship game? Do you need a ride to the game and back? YES?! Then read on—the following is information about the charted bus service (a.k.a. BCSBus) that I have organized for Auburn fans to take advantage of for just this purpose!

Please take a moment to look over the tentative itinerary and FAQ section. Seats are $45/person. Due to logistical issues, I’m only accepting payment via PayPal sent to BCSBus@gmail.com. Seating is first come, first serve-- the only way to reserve your seat is to pay for it! Also, refunds for cancellations will only be granted in the most extreme conditions.

Let's Go Bowling!

Alright boys, I have a bowl spread sheet setup that is so advanced I can't even put it up here. So shoot me an EMAIL and I will send it to you. The format is a points favored straight up pick 'em. There are 35 bowls, so if you think Auburn is going to win and you want to bet your life on it, you allot 35 points to that game. If you think Bama is going to lose but don't feel so sure about it, only bet 1 point on it. Once you place a value on a game you can no longer use that value for any other game, so there are 630 points possible.

So now that the formalities are out of the way, let's get down to business. What are the stakes? I say winner gets free trip to Glendale, paid for by losers, sound good? Sound off below.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I will need these turned in by next Friday, Dec. 17th as the first bowl game is Sat. the 18th

Free Friday Ear Food Fill-in

Since Roach is unavailable for his regular spot, I thought I'd help a brother out. Here is a track from LCD Soundsystem. It is basically a one man band. James Murphy plays almost all the instruments. Anyways, here is my current favorite, Dance Yrself Clean off the album, This Is Happening.

No Free Food For Your Ears Today

On top of being busy this week, I've been lazy in the music searching world and have nothing to share.

However, in recognition of Chuck Norris being named an Honorary Member of the Texas Rangers this week, I give you Walker, Texas Ranger's best moment ever:
