Bob Bradley Out as US Men's Team Coach

What I think most of us on this blog were waiting for finally happened today. Bob Bradley is out and the search is on for the next US men's soccer coach. There are lots of options for the US. I don't care what anyone says, the US has the money to buy anyone it wants. My fear is that the USSF tries to stay with an American, and looks to the MLS. I know the MLS doesn't get much love, but it is a solid player development league. I just don't want any of the coaches. First, few have any real international coaching experience, and second, its like looking to the minor leagues to get a coach for the most difficult and challenging major league. ESPN has a good article about some likely choices here, so I'm not going to go through all of them. Instead, I'm going to focus on my two favorites below the fold.

The Hot Music

Mobile has been teaming with awesome music lately. The bar right next to my house Callaghans Irish Social Club is one of the best little bars in the nation. It gets big name bands to play in their small venue. It's an awesome intimate show with the smallest of crowds.

First up. Greensky Bluegrass. They are the shit. enough said. one of the best shows ive seen. just about 50 to 75 people in attendance. Felt like a private show.

Next up. Honey Island Swamp Band. They played at Callaghans last night. It twas the shit.

This last saturday a absolutely awesome band played at Alabama Music Box. Two members from the band "Of Montreal" created their own new band. And if you like Of Montreal you will love them. Their name is "Yip Deceiver". It's just 3 dudes playing awesome 80's electro rock music ala MGMT. I really have a major boner for this band. super catchy awesome shit.

get some more in your life:

and one more:

also within the next 4 weeks we have Matisyahu and Mute Math coming to town. We are having a solid run. I am jealous of Bham though because you all have "Railroad Earth" coming to play sometime within the next month or two. Im not sure when but yall need to look it up and make sure you are there because they are one of the best. Im gonna catch them in New Orleans in October but may also make the drive to Bham to see them twice. Heres a good one if you havent heard of them:

Dexter Season 6!

The most important time of the year is almost upon us! Everyone is counting down the days, the media is in a frenzy and the fans are all on the edge of their seats.
Thats right, its time for the newest season of Dexter.
The hottest series on TV right now are slowly being taken over by the premium channels. True Blood, Game of Thrones, Dexter, Boardwalk Empire to name a few are slowly pushing the envelope and raising the game. Showtime and HBO are the Yankees and Red Sox of television these days with unlimited resources to spend on two or three different shows instead of having to fill a whole day. The actors and the writers are all top flight and its only getting better. The only problem I have with seasoned shows is that its really hard to keep a good thing going (see WEEDS). So here's to hoping that the writers/directors can continue to make it happen. Anywho, this trailer doesn't really give away too much, but it really pumps me up. I'll be purchasing season 5 next month and anxiously awaiting the arrival of season 6. And yes that is Mos Def in a few of the shots.

Here's a pretty solid article about the up and coming season http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/06/22/dexter-season-6-scott-buck/

Super Dave Tells Some Jokes

...and they can only laugh at the lips.

Free Friday Ear Food - Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears

Black Joe Lewis has to be one of the more hilarious and entertaining musicians I have come across in quite some time, by way of a co-worker no less. The proof:

And my favorite song of theirs, my first introduction to the band, Bitch, I Love You!

Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears just released their 2nd full length album, Scandalous, since forming back in 2007. They are streaming their entire discography in full over at their website www.blackjoelewis.com. Click on Launch Jukebox. I must warn you though, it has crashed on me a few times. I think it has something to do with pausing the music for too long??? I don't know, it works most of the time and my computer is fine. I'm just saying, if you wake up with a Trojan Horse in your ass, don't blame me.

Flash Backs

Some of you may remember when HDL had a dirt bike crash about 12 years ago. My ankle still hurts to this day. I have always tried to explain to people exactly how I managed to mangle my body so badly, but words could never describe what in reality was probably not even a contender for the 'And They Walked Away' series.

But I finally located a man who was willing to recreate my accident in front of a live audience so all the world could see. Check it out:

Now, obviously given the fact that he walked away from this crash, and I walked away in a wheelchair several weeks later, we must come to the conclusion that my crash was physically worse and more visually stunning than this guys. But still, it's pretty close.

Free Friday Ear Food - Radiohead From the Basement/I'll Be Your Mirror Mixtape

EDIT:  Video of full show now included.

Part I

Some of you may remember when Radiohead did the From the Basement concert with the release of In Rainbows. Well, they are doing it again with The King of Limbs. It's set to air today on BBC with future airings in NA on Palladia and presumably on the website fromthebasement.tv. Interestingly enough, the set is about 55 minutes long, while The King of Limbs is only a mere 37 minutes, so expect to here some new songs like this:

And probably this song not on the album:

Here's hoping that the show will convince me to pay to see them again during their next tour.
