Klinsmann to the US?

ESPN is reporting that the US Soccer Fed is talking to Juergen Klinsmann about the US Soccer Team's HC position. This would be huge for US Soccer. It is my opinion that Germany is where it is in international soccer right now because of Klinsmann. I was def. not satisfied with Bob Bradley after watching the US give up so many early goals in the lead up to and during the World Cup. Klinsmann could raise US soccer to the next level which should include consistant trips to the quarter and semi finals. He also advocates an attacking style very similar to what the US already does so there should be few problems making the transition. Thoughts?

  1. The U.S. is going to have to shell out some major $$ to get this guy. We aren't the only ones after him.

  2. I agree, but if the US wants to be a soccer power, then they ae gonna have to open the checkbook. This guy is worth the money.

  3. I agree, I really hope we land this deal. We have some good youth coming up right now and the faster we get him here to start training them the better. This could be, could be, could be just the thing soccer needs to move to the next level. Of course, we have also seen what dropping tons of money on former EPL stars to play in the MLS has done for that, so who knows, maybe soccer can never work in America.

  4. I don't think there is anything we can do to make soccer much more popular than it already is in the US. Teh best we can hope for is for Americans to tune in to the WC in large numbers. You can pretty much forget about professional soccer in the US being much more popular than it is now. However, tons of little kids play soccer in the US and having positive showings in the WC will keep a few more of those kids interested in soccer so that long term the US becomes more dominant in int soccer. The US has a large enough population to be dominant in soccer without overwhelming support at home. Klinsmann could help achieve this. Also, he remade Germany's youth developmental leagues while he was coaching Germany. They still use his system, which, based on the last two major (WC and Euro) int tourneys, seems to be working in Germany.

  5. I think Germany would have won if Klinsman would have been their coach in the last WC. It was rumored that Klinsman was going to be the coach but they ended up keeping Bradley(this was right after he wasn't coaching for germany and he bought a house in cali. I can't believe that anyone in the EPL would hire Bradley due to the fact that he didn't have a clue on who to put in. Klinsman would be awesome, and a step in the right direction, but I'll believe it when I see it.

  9. I could have written that article which means one of two things: either I am a soccer genious and I need to give up teaching job to go to work for FSC or this is such a terrible call that even the average soccer fan is painfully aware of it. I will go with the latter...WTF was Gulati thinking? What makes it more rediculous is that Gulati had a choice between a world class coach and another American. The people who run the US Soccer Fed need to realize that the most dynamic soccer is played in EUROPE! This is where the best tactical coaches are located. There is a reason why (outside of Brazil) the World Cup favorite almost always come from Europe. Latin America has plenty of kids playing soccer, yet they don't get it done in the WC because they lack the coaching. They almost always fall short because of a lack of organization, not talent.
