HBO's Boardwalk Empire premieres this Sunday and it's gonna be the best thing since the Saprano's. HBO has consistently knocked series shows out of the park. See Band of Brothers, Soprano's, and yes even fucking True Blood(they show enough titties in that show to make the worst actors look ok). My point being is that this show is going to be pretty awesome. Martin Scorsese, yes THE Martin Scorsese, King of Gangster Movies, Directs and Steve Buscemi stars as a crooked town treasurer who has his hands in everything, and if he doesn't somebody...somewheres that is involved in that something is going to get whacked!

  1. Damnit Roy, you beat me to it. I was about to post something about this. Nobody better beat me to my previews of Eastbound and Down and Bored to Death.

  2. You forgot about Curb Your Enthusiasm. The best show on the HBO brand.

  3. I'd like to make a reservation to watch this and Easbound and Down at your house. I assume you just overlooked "Hung" as being one of HBO's huge successes. Also, just to be a dick, it's "Sopranos," not "Sapranos."

  4. Billy, unfortunately I don't think there is a new season of Curb any time soon.

  5. I only meant that he forgot to include it in his list of landmark entertainment that has been brought to us by HBO.

  6. During the 'preview' before Boardwalk Empire came on, it said a new season of Curb was coming out, but didn't say when.

Also, I wasn't going to do a preview, I was going to review the first show, but it seems that everyone watched it and knows how awesome it was.

  7. I thought the first show was super slow, and I feel like it's going to be that way throughout the series. This has definitely become a problem in the different series on HBO/Showtime. They drag it out as long as they can so they can keep you watching. If Boardwalk doesn't speed up, I'm gonna kick that bitch to the curb.

  8. Um..yeah...I'm going to have to go ahead and...disagree with you there.

I think part of the reason why anyone would feel that way is because the episode was 75 minutes long, which is almost like a movie, and yet the story wasn't geared towards that. It should work better as a 50 min episode. But I think they really wanted to get people invested in it by building up all the characters involved. In my opinion, they could have left out the whole AL Capone setup until a later episode, granted this would mean rewriting the entire episode, but like I said, I think they went all out to show everyone involved and make them interesting. And compared to the horrible job of character building HBO did with The Pacific, I would say they did a pretty good job here.

That being said, the acting, camera work, and production were all top notch I thought. And Jimmy blowing half that dude's face off was pretty shocking. Constance and I both were very impressed with the show, and will likely be tuning in all season.

  9. The camera work was very impressive, and the acting is some of the better work I've seen in a while. I am stoked it was still a little slow

  11. IMO the show looks pretty promising thus far. The first episode was VERY SLOW, but I was expecting that since they had to develop the characters and lay the ground work for the major conflicts. I will continue to watch, and I'm axious to see how Al Capone is used in this show. Will he be a primary character or just someone the Atlantic City group will deal with from time to time in Chicago?

  12. Yeah, I think he will just be secondary, after all the show is called Boardwalk Empire, not Windy City Empire. And Capone moved to Chicago in 1920, the same year the show is taking place, but he remained in connection with Atlantic City, which is where all gangsters from across America came to conference, up until his arrest.

No, this show is definitely about Nucky 1st, Jimmy 2nd, and Al Capone thrown in to make things interesting.

For those interested, google Nucky Johnson, the real Nucky that Nucky Thompson is fictionalized after.
