Well, all those hoping the Boise State issue would be moot after last night had their hopes dashed. Forget about their easy schedule. The point is they looked pretty good. They played a quality opponent - though not an exceptional one - and finished strong. I'm not saying they could go undefeated in the SEC but I think they could play with anyone. What do you guys think? I'm sick of hearing "they don't play any quality opponents" and "they are in a weak conference." Well, they try to schedule as many quality opponents as they can. Obviously, a lot of the BCS schools are too scared to play them. And it isn't like you can just join any conference you want. You have to be invited and I didn't see one invitation to Boise outside of the Mountain West Conference.
I deplore the BCS, as I hope all of you do. And the only way to get rid of it is for total chaos and a championship game that no one thinks is legitimate. So, that is what I'm hoping for.
I, for one thought that Boise would get creamed by VT last night. I thought VT's superior running game, physicality and depth would be too much for them. I was really impressed with them, yet again. They seem to always show up when they are under the spotlight.
ReplyDeleteThat said I still think they have an unfair advantage by having a two game season. Their fault or not...it be what it be* Think about this...if any other highly ranked team had beaten VT this weekend would the pundits be discussing whether or not they would be left out of the MNC?? The only reason they are is b/c if they beat Oregon St. then they will in all likelyhood go undefeated, barring a huge upset. They get a lot of off weeks during the season.
They are a great team and can beat anyone on a given night...but I think it would be a travesty if Auburn lost to Clemson (for example) and then won out...meaning they beat USC(east), Arky, LSU, Georgia, Alabama (Jordan-Hare West), and possibly Florida...and Boise St. played for the MNC over us.
I pretty much echo what Tidwell says. I am in favor of the BSC going down in flames and an undefeated Boise will help light the match. Here are my dream scenarios: some team in the Big 12, Big 10, or PAC 10 gets one loss. An SEC team goes undefeated. Boise gets picked over the one loss team and goes to the MNC game and gets absolutely demolished by the SEC team. Then the one loss team absolutely demolishes whoever they play in ther BCS bowl game. OR Boise and TCU both go undefeated and ever other BCS conference has a one loss champion. TCU and Boise or just one of them goes to the MNC game and gets drilled by the one loss BCS conference school. While neither one of these is lickly to lead to any substantial change in the BCS (AU 2004 was more rediculous than either of these scenarios), maybe...just maybe...it will delegitimize the BCS enough to start making long term changes.
