Check out this series of still photos showing Cam Newton's six and a half yard leap into the end zone. It also comes with a story explaining why Gus Malzahn says this will never happen again. This guy is phenomenal.
I was already a believer before this weekends game...but Cam took it to the next level against USCe. His short to intermediate passing was deadly accurate. He was 16-21...those 5 incompletions included 3 drops and one intentional throw away! If CGM keeps calling games like he did Sat. and Cam keeps improving...Next year he will be a Vince Young type of difference maker...YES, I said Vince Young!
I have already compared him to Vince Young, and I think without him Auburn would have lost 2 if not 3 games of its 4 games so far. The real test will be if he can keep it up next year with a new, less experienced O-Line.
I will say that Cam is failing to check down correctly or people are running their routes incorrectly, cause it seemed like there were a couple of times I thought he could have thrown it when he didn't. BUT I do realize that not throwing an interception is a lot more important than taking a sack or a short gain, so while I am happy to have him I'm just not that confident in his passing abilities.
I think it's obvious the coaches don't trust him to throw the deep pass unless a receiver is all alone. But I think he wants to, so to fight those feelings, and maybe to say "Hey if you won't let me throw, I'm gonna get down field somehow," he runs every opportunity he gets, and lowers the shoulder in the process. What good is an arm if you can't use it?
I actually disagree about the deep throws. I think the reason all he was throwing was deep stuff the first 3 games is b/c the coaches didnt trust him to throw short...a deep int. is as good as a punt. I think they were afraid if he threw short he would throw a pick for a TD or one that would flip field position.
I was really glad to see them give him the green light on the short passing game and he was VERY accurate. I agree that he does look to run a good bit...but I think that is partly due to his lack of field vision at this point (i.e.-he doesn't see the open receivers so he tucks and runs). His improved vision is what will take him to that next level. However, with that said he never needs to quit trusting his legs...b/c that is the strength of his game. I remember watching the NC game...Texas had the ball with seconds left...4th and goal on the 6. I remember saying to everyone..."You know he is gonna take off and run". He did...and he got it. I can only hope Cam turns out to be as good as VY.
ps-I am liking the multiple comments on a post! That is my favorite part of the blog experience...the back and forth conversation when we comment multiple times on one thread. Jus sayin!

--It's also worth noting the 60+ posts on the blog; more than I ever thought we would have at this point in time. Also a good mix of media. I think it's time to take this thing public.
I dont have a problem with it going public...I doubt anyone will give a shit about it besides us though! haha. I still wish there was a way to make the most recently commented on thread automatically moved to the top of the board...thats what keeps people commenting and gets the long, in depth conversations.
Heath, do you remember how to put a tracker on here? Actually, this blog is public in that anyone who wants to can access it. I think it would be interesting to see how many people stumble across it, how long the read posts, and how deep into the blog they get.
If we, as members/authors of this blog, visit other random blogs, does it leave a signature of our visit that might lead someone back to our blog? i.e.-would us visiting and posting on other blogs help increase our traffic somehow?
