MGMT Concert
I saw MGMT at the Tabernacle in Atlanta last night. Let me save you some hard earned time and money: DO NOT SEE MGMT IN CONCERT! This show made me want to take a nap, which is the last thing I'm looking for at an Indie rock concert. The band seemed sort of half interested and completely disappointed. The only highlights were when they played Kids, Electric Feel, and Time to Pretend. Unfortunately, it wasn't because of MGMT. These were the three songs the crowd got into and energy came from the crowd, not the band. I thought I might have been disappointed because I wasn't familiar with more than about 7 or 8 songs, but then I remembered that I absolutely loved Arcade Fire and I had never heard any of their songs prior to seeing them live. If MGMT comes to a city near you, do yourself a favor: go to a bar with an internet juke box and pick these three songs to listen to. If it is a hip enough bar, then you might as well have seen them live and you only had to pay the $5 for three songs.

I remember being excited to see them live at Bonnaroo and being disappointed when we had to, ahem, tend to someone's freak out. But after watching some Youtube videos of them I'm glad we didn't. It looked like they were just rolling the whole time. MGMT is the indie equivalent of a rap group: awesome albums, shitty live performances. They are the reason producers win Grammys.
ReplyDeleteGeorge saw them at Voodoo and said they were the pretty awesome. George is known to get slightly hammered and does always end up enjoying every concert way more then any other person I've been with, but he did say they put on a pretty good show.
ReplyDeleteHe also said that My Morning Jacket took the cake. He's not even a fan, but I've heard from multiple people that my morning jacket just comes ready to put on an awesome show day in and day out.
